Printful opens new location in Charlotte to accommodate rapidly growing business

October 3, 2016

This is the ecommerce company's first step to global expansion.

Charlotte, NC: Printful has opened a new location outside of Charlotte, North Carolina, to accommodate the demand of their 10K customers. Printful is a print-on-demand dropshipping company that prints and ships print products, like t-shirts, for ecommerce retailers. It has grown 200% every year since it launched in 2013, and its client base increases an average of 10% month over month.

Their new Charlotte facilities are 100,000 square feet, which is 3x larger than their HQ in California, and they plan to invest $1,500,000 in the move. Printful plans to hire 30 new employees by the end of 2016, 100 by the end of 2017, and 200 by the end of 2018.

North Carolina is home to other established textile companies. Charlotte offers close proximity to Printful's suppliers and printers, and to an experienced workforce. It is also close to Printful's client base on the East Coast and in the Midwest. When the new facilities are fully operational, approximately 70% of all orders will be printed there.

Davis Siksnans, CEO of Printful, says: “We estimate that our California HQ will max out by the end of this year. Opening a new location now lets us prepare for peak season and it gives us more room to grow in 2017. Charlotte will be Printful's hub for innovation, expanding our products and services, and for planning future growth.”

Printful was founded in 2013 by Lauris Liberts, an entrepreneur from Latvia (a European country in the Baltics). Printful is part of the Draugiem Group, an influential Latvian IT company co-founded by Liberts. The Draugiem Group launched the country's first social network platform in 2004, and is home to 14 other successful startups.

Printful's first HQ opened in Burbank, California. One year later, they moved to a bigger facility in Chatsworth, CA. Their team now consists of 130 people – 100 in the USA, and 30 in Latvia.

This is Printful's first step to expansion as they continue to scale their services globally. Over the next 5 years, they plan to open locations in other countries, like the UK and Australia.

Printful announces its integration with popular ecommerce platform Tictail

August 25, 2015

The popular ecommerce platform Tictail launches its integration with on-demand print fulfillment company Printful to offer print-on-demand services to Tictail individual online retailers. This news comes promptly after Tictail announces their series B funding.

This step will make on-demand printing available to all of Tictail's users, as it will be the first POD (Print on Demand) integration available on the ecommerce platform. Users will be able to create online garment and print product stores without having physical access to the product, as everything would be fulfilled and dropshipped by Printful.

This further strengthens the notion of the developing microniche ecommerce economy, giving the people the necessary tools to manage and develop their own online stores with little to no upfront investment. This also allows the people to cater to a specific audience, a departure from the typical mass-marketed apparel industry.

Draugiem Group launches Printful - an automated printing and fulfillment service for small online businesses

July 16, 2013

Printful is a startup focusing on fulfilling and shipping printed products such as posters, t-shirts, canvases, and more. Located in Chatsworth, California and launched July 16, 2013, Printful is co-founded by Lauris Liberts, also co-founder of Latvian social network Draugiem.lv. Printful has developed from within the Draugiem Group incubator, an umbrella organization which actively supports and develops new business ideas, currently having created 16 startups.

Printful offers automatic, on-demand printing and fulfillment services, to manage print orders for small and medium sized online businesses. As a white-label solution, businesses are able to ensure products such as printed posters and t-shirts from their brand. The option for one-off, on demand orders and no subscription fee eliminate large financial risk, offering small businesses and new websites a safe platform to monetize their content.

The idea for Printful and has evolved out of the experience gained from projects such as Behappy.me and Startup Vitamins, both of which offer quotes on different print products. The need for a quality partner for printing and shipping led to creating a system for their own needs. Now small businesses are able to outsource their printing to trustworthy partners, who meet the standards of the Printful founders. Printful differentiates itself from other drop shipping services in that it provides an API, which automatically sends orders to the Printful system to be fulfilled, thereby eliminating any manual input.

Unlike most printing companies, small order sizes are not penalized, but rather encouraged. The system lets any small site or blog monetize their content, or anyone with basic skills to be able to easily sell their digital artwork on posters or t-shirts.

Printful currently offers printing on several products, including t-shirts, posters, canvases, framed posters. Printful plans to offer more products with time, as well as to integrate with Shopify, the popular online e-commerce platform.
