Print file guidelines

Print sizes

In order to print high quality prints, we need high quality print files. So here are Printful's print file design guidelines.

All print files must be scaled to print size. Graphics that do not meet our guidelines might not be printed correctly.

  • Every print file needs to be converted to a format that the embroidery supports. This process is called digitization and it costs $10 per one print file. We digitize only print files that are part of an order. We don't accept embroidery file types you have digitized yourself.
  • Embroidery for side graphics is additional $3 per each side.
  • Partial and full 3D puff is an extra $1.50.

Graphic placement

3D PUFF + Side Logo
PARTIAL 3D
FLAT EMBROIDERY

Please specify the details of your order (e.g. the placement of graphic, the colors of threads, and details about 3D puff ) during the order checkout process. Use max of 2 colors for 3D puff and max of 4 colors for flat embroidery. If you mix 3D puff and flat embroidery the total amount of colors per file should not exceed 4 colors. We do not offer 3D puff on the side of hats.

When using both 3D Puff & Flat, please make sure the stroke is no less than 4pt as in the attached Printful_4ptStroke. The larger the Flat part is the better the end result.

All objects with 3D puff must have at least one diameter that is less than 0.5". The minimum thickness for objects that are 3-D puff is 0.25".

Must follow print file guides

  1. Use solid shapes only
Do not include photographic imagery (no gradients, no blends, only solid shapes).
  2. Use solid colors only
Use only solid colors. Maximum of 2 colors for 3D puff and maximum of 4 colors for flat embroidery.
  3. Outline your fonts
All fonts in the print files should be converted to outlines so you don't have to send over the font files. See this tutorial on how fonts affect your print files and how to format them.
  4. Font and detail size
Fonts and details should be a minimum of .5" high and when using a different color outline they should be no less than 4pt.
  5. Background
    Background color must be transparent.
  6. True to size graphics
We can only adjust the size by 10% once digitized.
  7. File formats
Vector graphics files (AI, PDF, EPS) are highly recommended. If you don't have vector files available, raster graphics can be used as well if the resolution is at least 300 dpi. We don't accept embroidery file types you have digitized yourself.
  8. Embroidery on beanies
Due to the highly elastic nature of beanies and slouch beanies, designs may not be uniformly embroidered or justified.
